Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is becoming a premiere medical training school in Norfolk, Virginia. With EVMS’s growth came the expansion of the Brickell Library and the Lewis Hall Vivarium and related labs.
Conventional precast deep pile foundations were unacceptable due to the sensitive and fine balanced medical equipment and the need for quiet for the doctors and students in the library. Froehling & Robertson, Inc. proposed and monitored the installation of auger cast piles for these two building additions to lower the building construction vibration to acceptable levels.
In addition to the foundation geotechnical engineering and monitoring, F&R also performed the construction materials testing services for the projects.
