F&R has served as a geotechnical consultant on numerous projects over the past decade at the US Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. F&R owns and operates a permanently stationed CME-55 truck mounted drill rig and associated equipment on base which has enabled us to respond quickly and efficiently to NAVFAC requests.
All projects involved subsurface explorations in often questionably accessible territory and coastal terrain. In the cases of pier expansions and repairs, our drillers advanced offshore borings and rock corings via Navy barge. Samples collected are analyzed in F&R’s soils laboratories in the United States. Once our geotechnical engineers have had an opportunity to review the laboratory
data and make on-site observations, recommendations for foundations and site preparation are offered for each project.
Some of our most recent projects include:
- W. T. Sampson School
- Pier B, C, and V Expansions
- Happy Valley Fuel Farm – 55,000 BBL Fuel Storage Tank
- New Base Housing – Iguana Terrace, Marina Point, Caravela Point, and Evans Point
- Hurricane Sandy Repairs
- Leeward Ferry Landing
- Building 752
- Cuzco Road
- Fitness Center
- Camera Towers
- Pipeline Alley
