F&R’s team performed a preliminary investigation for dredging a two-acre irrigation pond that was heavily laden with sediment and algae at the golf course.
The purpose of the investigation was to estimate the accumulated sediment thickness and provide geotechnical and analytical characteristics of the sediment for use in further planning and per-mitting of the dredging of the pond. The team performed a bathymetric survey along several transects across the pond and calculated the total area of sediment in each transect, using this data to estimate the vol-ume of sediment between each transect. They also estimated the total amount of sediment in the pond, collecting sediment samples from the pond for geotechnical and analytical analysis.
This information was used to apply for a dredging permit with the Maryland Department of the Environment/US Army Corps of Engineers.
