The Middle Ground Boulevard expansion project involved extending the road by 1.2 miles. The project included a bridge over a CSX Railroad with a four lane divided highway.
The construction included roughly 175,000 cubic yards of fill and backfill; 45,000 tons of asphalt concrete pavement; 24,000 tons of CTA base, 10,000 tons of 21B, 5,000 cubic yards of structural concrete; and 1,400 linear feet of sound wall. The bridge over the CSX Railroad is approximately 300 feet long and fill to create the approaches will be approximately 30 feet in height.
Froehling & Robertson, Inc. performed the testing services required for the Contractor’s field quality control for the following elements of construction during the project’s three year lifetime:
- Pile Monitoring,
- Cast-In-Place Concrete, and
- Asphalt Concrete Paving.
