This full block development includes historic row building frontage with a new modern 10 above grade level glass building on Mount Vernon Square near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) metro station. The proposed office/retail building will be an impressive 1.1 million square feet designed by Shalom Baranes Associates and is jointly developed by Douglas Development Corporation and Brookfield. The project is currently under construction by James G. Davis Construction Corporation and is anticipated to achieve a minimum of a LEED Gold rating.
Due to the proximity of the construction to WMATA facilities (Zone of Influence), Froehling & Robertson, Inc., a WMATA preferred provider, prepared the monitoring and contingency plan to meet the
requirements of the Joint Development and Adjacent Construction program. This action included:
- Providing assistance with permit applications and condition surveys.
- Adjacent construction monitoring for the portion of the project within WMATA’s Zone of Influence. We employed the use of robotic total stationing inside WMATA’s precast lined tunnels and pushed data daily to the project team via web reporting.
