Froehling & Robertson, Inc. provided construction materials testing and inspections, supplemental geotechnical and geostructural monitoring services during the construction of the $42 million Virginia Square Towers project.
An endeavor of incredible magnitude, the project consisted of construction of a two-building, 536-unit residential complex with 10,000 square feet of commercial space. Encompassing two city blocks, it is bisected by a cobblestone road going through a civic courtyard full of amenities including a lively zero-depth water fountain in the center of an informal performance amphitheater.
The first building is thirteen stories high, while the second is a six story tower. The facility also includes a four story below-grade parking garage. F&R provided testing and inspection services on building materials that included:
- Floor Flatness Testing
- Steel Inspections
- Asphaltic Paving
- Aggregate Base Coarse
Additionally, F&R offered supplemental geotechnical testing (pressuremeter) and engineering recommendations and monitoring of the adjacent WMATA structures during construction.
