Froehling & Robertson, Inc. has enjoyed a long relationship with the Virginia Military Institute. In addition to providing services under an open-ended contract for engineering services, F&R has had the opportunity to be involved in numerous specific projects of note including the expansion and renovation of the Third Barracks.
The services F&R provided during the course of this multiyear, $27 million project included nearly every discipline in the company. These services included construction materials testing, environmental engineering, to geotechnical engineering, special inspections, and construction management.
The project was a four- to six-story concrete frame, masonry building with both deep (caisson) and shallow foundations. Materials testing services were performed on soils, reinforcing steel, cast-in-place concrete, fire-resistive materials, structural steel, concrete masonry units (CMU), mortars and grout.
Additionally, F&R performed CMT services in the field and laboratory to monitor compliance with the contract documents and all applicable building codes.
