Morgan State University Student Services Building

F&R was part of the project team throughout the design and construction phases of the new $88-million, 141,000-square-foot Tyler Hall Student Services Building on the Morgan State University Campus. Named for Calvin and Tina Tyler, the new facility houses nearly 20 student support departments, including a state-of-the-art 250-seat recruitment room, extensive gathering spaces for community service events, and a large welcoming area and atrium. The facility is designed as a LEED Silver Certified Building using energy-efficient practices to reduce water and electricity uses.

Working with the architect during the final design phases, F&R’s geotechnical team executed a subsurface exploration and field and laboratory testing program to ascertain the proposed bearing capacity. Once the data was analyzed, our geotechnical engineers recommended foundations, site preparation, dewatering, and other considerations.

During construction, F&R’s inspection team mobilized and conducted materials testing and special inspections of soils and earthwork, cast-in-place concrete, reinforcing steel, caisson construction, structural steel and welding, masonry, asphalt, and spray-applied fireproofing.
