Arlington County has strived to develop and expand Long Bridge Park for more than a decade. F&R held an on-call term contract with the County for materials testing and inspection services and provided these services during the construction of the new aquatics center.
The complex is Arlington County’s first free-standing aquatics center and design-build project. The project included 10.5 acres of park development and the new structure construction. The Aquatics Center consists of a competition pool (50 meters), a leisure pool, and spectator seating. The Fitness Center includes weights and cardio, group fitness, community meeting, party, administrative, safety, storage, and mechanical rooms. The site development included an extension of the Esplanade, integrated public art, community gathering spaces, stormwater management facilities, bicycle and pedestrian pathways, vehicle access, drop-off and parking areas, and a bus drop-off/pick-up area.
F&R’s engineering professionals conducted testing and inspections of waterproofing, soils, foundations, cast-in-place concrete, structural steel, masonry, asphaltic pavements, and spray-applied fireproofing.
