The Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of U.S. and Coalition military personnel who participated in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. The foundation’s goal is to commemorate the historical significance of these operations, educate the public about the events and challenges faced by the troops, and recognize the bravery and dedication of those who served. Their primary goal is to construct a national memorial in Washington, D.C., to serve as a lasting tribute to the veterans and their families. Groundbreaking for the memorial occurred in July 2022, and the Foundation anticipates dedicating the memorial in 2026.
F&R provided an initial geotechnical subsurface exploration at the selected memorial site and provided geotechnical engineering recommendations to help guide design and construction activities. F&R was subsequently retained to perform additional Cone Penetrometer Testing at various locations across the site.
Now in the construction phase, the memorial design includes foundations for large dune walls, stormwater management features such as a bioretention pond, lighting, signals, landscaping, and other site improvements. F&R has been retained to provide construction materials testing throughout the project duration. Our scope of work includes concrete, soils, steel, other observations, and special inspection services.
