Due to an ever-expanding student population, Greenville County Schools built a new $84-million high school to house 2,000 students. Overcrowding in three area schools had been a concern, and some students from those burdened schools benefitted from the new high school construction.
Fountain Inn High School is the first new high school in the area in 50 years. The school offers traditional high school classes, advanced college-level courses, and an institute for automation and engineering. The school is also the first in the district to focus on (STEAM) – science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math – with particular emphasis on advanced manufacturing.
The two-story metal framework building features large windows in the lobby area and a brick exterior to maintain the traditional appearance of a school. F&R’s engineers and field technicians provided materials testing and Chapter 17 special inspections, which included soils, concrete, masonry, structural steel, and reinforced steel.
In addition, F&R also provided vibration monitoring services during rock blasting activities to install a new sewer line along the southern portion of the site.
