City of Raleigh Law Enforcement Training Center

Working under a term contract with the City of Raleigh, F&R contributed to many of the City’s progressive projects, including involvement in the redevelopment of Union Station, the design and construction of the massive Downtown Remote Operations Complex, and many more parks, recreational facilities, office, and public safety facilities. When it was time to design and construct a new law enforcement training center, the City turned to F&R to perform a geotechnical evaluation to support the design and provide materials testing and special inspections during construction.

The new two-story steel-framed facility connects to the adjacent Wake County Law Enforcement Training Center. Based on a subsurface exploration and laboratory testing program, F&R’s geotechnical engineers made foundation, retaining wall, and pavement design recommendations.

F&R provided construction materials testing and special inspections during the construction phase. Our services included observing grading operations, evaluating subgrades, laboratory testing of fill materials, field density testing, foundation bearing grade, foundation reinforcing steel inspection, concrete, mortar, and grout evaluation, compressive strength testing, sprayed-fire-resistant materials inspection and testing, and structural steel inspection.
