The Berkeley is an affordable mixed-income residential complex with two five-story apartment buildings and a below-grade garage. The buildings are composed of standard wood framing, brick, and cementitious panels with metal panel accents.
F&R’s project management, engineering, and technical staff provided materials testing and inspections during the complex’s construction. Our services included inspection/monitoring/observation of the following: support of excavation (SOE), including piles, lagging, and tie-backs; waterproofing; soils and earthwork; reinforcing steel; cast-in-place concrete; post-tension concrete; structural steel; masonry; asphaltic pavements; and spray-applied fireproofing.
Additionally, F&R’s geostructural monitoring team conducted precondition surveys of adjacent buildings and monitoring of SOE systems.
