Mary’s career in the A/E/C industry began in 1992 in the marketing department of The Sear-Brown Group (SBG), a full-service A/E/C firm based in Rochester, NY. A bit of a science geek, she loved learning about everything the technical staff did. The multi-state firm housed environmental scientists, architects, and construction inspectors, along with engineers and technicians of nearly every discipline: civil, survey, transportation, mechanical/electrical and instrumentation, bridge and building structural engineers, landscape architects, and traffic engineers. Mary went back to school part-time to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree. Ten years into her 12-year SBG career, Canadian-based firm Stantec bought the company. Shortly thereafter, she left her position and returned to school full-time, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in English, with a concentration in creative writing, from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport.
Mary and her husband, John, relocated to Virginia in 2005. She was the Business Director for a small non-profit arts presenter in Fredericksburg for three years, then joined the PR/Comms Department of an international trade association representing the roadway safety infrastructure industry. Before joining F&R in 2021, she spent 11 years on the marketing team of another well-known A/E firm.
Mary develops and executes marketing policies, protocols, and strategies designed to drive business growth. She manages and mentors a staff of five marketing professionals, overseeing their activities in collaboration with F&R’s leadership and business development team. She believes the bottom line is simple: good marketing is good business, and F&R is in the business of fostering client and project success.
